Message to Students: New Calendar Dates for the Remainder of the Winter 2022 Term

Dear students,

The University Senate held a special meeting this evening to deliberate on a few key issues regarding the remainder of the term. Please see below for important information. My apologies for the evening email.

New Academic Calendar Dates for the Remainder of Winter 2022

The University Senate approved the following modified academic dates. The main considerations in developing these dates were:

  • Minimizing any extension of the term, given the negative impacts an extension would have, such as disrupting graduate school plans, international travel, lease and rental circumstances, and work and co-op engagements.
  • Maximizing the ability to provide students the instruction necessary to successfully complete the term and be prepared for any following term or education plans.
  • Building a calendar that allows for Convocation dates to remain the same, given many family travel plans from across the country and internationally have already been made.

Modified Calendar Dates

March 3: Classes resume
March 30: Exam schedule to be posted
April 6: Last day for Tests/Major assignments (Tests not to be held in the last week of classes)
April 13: Last day of classes
April 13: Last day to withdraw from Winter term courses and receive a “W”.
April 14: Study Day
April 15: Good Friday holiday
April 16 to April 25: Examination period (April 17th Easter Sunday is a Holiday)
April 29: Last day to submit final Master’s theses
May 8 and May 9: Convocation Ceremonies

NOTE: For exceptional cases for programs where additional criteria must be met for professional or accreditation requirements, alternative dates may be established and communicated to you by no later than Friday, March 11, 2022.

Course Delivery Model at the Instructor’s Discretion

The University Senate also voted in favour of allowing instructors the discretion to deliver their courses in the modality of their choosing to complete the term, whether virtual, face-to-face, or blended/hybrid, using either synchronous or asynchronous delivery. Please speak to your instructors for more information.

With warmest regards,

Scott Duguay
